Artist Statement:
I aim to create work that invites viewers to reflect on their relationships with materials, objects, and the environments that shape their everyday lives. I seek to reveal the inherent qualities of materials and simultaneously alter them. My recent work deals with denim. I am concerned with transforming this material, specifically hardening it in different ways. I approach the act of making forms as an integral part of my conceptual exploration. I am investigating the materials' industrial production, sustainability, and afterlife. I am drawn to how denim, with its history and inherent qualities, can be transformed through the act of making, provoking necessary dialogues as it takes on a new form.
